How is marble formed?
Marble is a popular natural stone material that has been used for building and decorating purposes for centuries. Its popularity is mostly due to its unique appearance. The word “marble” is derived from the Ancient Greek words “marmaron” and “marmaros,” which translates to crystalline rock and shining stone, which speaks to the presence of a high quartz concentration in this material.
Marble is metamorphosed limestone that is created when limestone is exposed to extremely high temperatures and pressure. During this process, unique veins and patterns are created, giving rise to these well-known characteristics of marble.
The veins found in marble slabs are caused by mineral impurities that are caused by clay, silt, sand, iron, chert, or oxides, which were originally layered within the limestone. The different coloured veins are also influenced by the different minerals. At Africa Range, our marble solutions offer individuals enchanting delicate veining.
Where is marble sourced?
Marble is sourced from stone quarries around the world. Large blocks of marble are extracted from the quarry, and this is then cut into smaller, transportable sizes, which are then exported and cut into custom sizes to meet our clients’ needs.
Our marble countertops are available in a range of colours, ranging from cream and beige to grey, brown, and black, as well as a variety of patterns and finishes, affording our clients the freedom to choose a countertop that will suit their chosen interior design theme. The marble stone used at Africa Range is suitable for a variety of products.

What makes marble a good option for countertops?
Besides its rich history and legacy, marble also offers other advantages which have made it a popular choice for countertops. Some of these advantages include:
Flexible design capabilities
Marble is easier to cut through than most other natural stone types, as it is not as prone to chipping. Being comparatively easier to cut, marble allows for design flexibility and custom installations without the fear of damaging the slab.
Although marble is known as one of the “softer” natural stones, it is still an exceptionally durable option for countertops and can withstand high traffic.
Like many other stone types, marble is heat resistant, making it a suitable worktop choice. Even though it is heat resistant, care still needs to be taken to protect marble tops, which is why it is advised to never place hot pots and pans directly onto the surface.
Although the perception is that marble is expensive, there are a few more affordable options available. If you choose a marble slab that is more readily available on the market, the price tag is guaranteed to be more affordable.
When sealed and properly cared for, a marble countertop’s surface can be just as sanitary and hygienic as a granite top’s surface, making it a suitable choice for kitchen counters.
